Major apple production centers in Iran are scattered in the provinces of West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Tehran, Isfahan and Zanjan. In the province of West Azerbaijan, which ranks first in apple production in Iran, the city of Urmia has the highest rate of apple production in this province. East Azerbaijan province is also one of the major apple production centers in the country. Maragheh town has the highest apple production in East Azerbaijan province, and Miyaneh, Ahar and Marand towns are in the next ranks of apple production in this province. Maragheh is the center of apple production in East Azerbaijan at the foot of Sahand Mountain, and has a cold climate, and is located at an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level, in which the time of apple harvest is in this town from October 8. In the town of Damavand, which is close to Tehran, from late September to late November is the time to pick apples in this town.
